TwistedWave 1.7 is available!
As for all the updates released so far, TwistedWave 1.7 is freely available for all the registered users. It contains a number of new features, fixes and improvements, the most important ones being the new support for batch processing, and the DIRAC Time Stretch/Pitch Shift technology, licensed from The DSP Dimension, one of the best pitch shifting implementations, an excellent replacement for Apple’s built in pitch shifting algorithms.
The detailed list of new features, fixes and improvements can be found in the release notes. The most important ones are detailed below.
Batch processing
TwistedWave now has a very powerful batch processing engine. It can work on any number of files, and apply any number of effects on them, such as amplifying, applying an Audio Unit or changing the frame rate, for instance.
After a file has been processed, it can be saved in a different file format. Because TwistedWave can read and write in many different file formats, this makes a very powerful batch converter.
The batch processing can also be used to generate the waveform image from a list of files. This can be used to generate small images representing sound files to build a web site, for instance.
DIRAC Time Stretch/Pitch Shift technology
Before TwistedWave 1.7, the Change Pitch and Speed effect was using Apple’s built-in implementation.
Now, it uses the DIRAC Time Stretch/Pitch Shift technology, licensed from The DSP Dimension. It sounds very good, and is really usable for pro audio work.
The “Change Pitch and Speed” window has been extended with a few settings specific to the DIRAC algorithm, such as the formant correction that makes it possible to do a more natural pitch transformation.
The lambda setting offers the ability to select a time/frequency tradeoff. You can find more information on this in the manual, available directly by pressing the (?) button in the lower left corner of the window.
Pitch correction
Another feature available with the DIRAC technology is the automatic pitch correction. Given a piece of audio, DIRAC will automatically pitch shift it to the closest note. This is available from the main menu, in Effects / Pitch Correction…
Other improvements
- Support for saving WMA files.
- Added support for the MS and IMA4 ADPCM codec.
- Clicking on a marker moves the cursor.
- Selecting markers in the markers window selects the corresponding audio regin.
- Avoid doing a selection by mistake with a simple click.
- More bug fixes and improvements…

Hello, a while back I downloaded Tiwsted Wave 30-day trial demo. I think I’m ready to purchase the full license, but first I have a few questions that need to be answered:
1. How do I install updates? For example, if I purchase the license to convert my current demo version for use of the full version, how do I access and install the latest 1.7 update?
2. What makes this wave editor better than free apps like Audacity? or better yet Bias Peak 6 LE, which is just a few bucks more, but looks just as powerful and much more elegant?
3. What future features or updates are you planning to add to this program? For example, Perpetual Looper DSP: ensures perfect “beat-free” sustained loops on monophonic sources — great for creating instrument sample libraries. This would be a big selling point for people like myself who are interested in creating and producing perfect audio loops.
Thank you in advance.

Hello,
1. The updates are dmg files that contain the application. You just have to drag and drop it to the applications folder to replace the old version. If you have purchased a license earlier, the updated version will also be registered and be fully functional.
2. What makes it better than audacity or peak? Users often find TwistedWave very intuitive and easy to use. All these applications have some advantages over the others. It’s up to you to make your mind and see what works best for you.
3. I can’t say exactly what will be in future updates. Most of the new features are suggestions from users. I didn’t know of Perpetual Looper DSP. I will see if something similar is doable, but I can’t guarantee anything. Anyway, I recently started working full time on TwistedWave, and as a consequence, you can expect updates to become more frequent, and contain many exciting features
Regards,
Thomas

First off, I am a long time TW user (since the first beta, in fact). I also use Peak on a regular basis in the studio where we don’t have a TW license.
In response to Floyd Graham’s comment:
1. You simply copy the updated app to your /Applications folder. It’s a s simple as this.
2. Well, to put it mildly, in my opinion Peak sucks. I find it much easier to work with TW instead, because it is more leightweight, a lot faster (opening and processing files for instance is done in a transparent manner – in Peak you have to wait until the process is finished. TW is more like sonicworx which was THE audio editor before MacOS X). Audacity is a monster. It takes time to load, its user interface is rather slow, its color scheme ugly, it completely takes over your Mac’s audio, it sometimes (actually quite often) crashes or hangs. TW has a more elegant feel to it and is far more intuitive to operate.
3. I can’t answer this as I don’t work for TW, but that would certainly be very useful. Perpetual looper is nothing new though, the EMU and Ensoniq samplers from the 1990s already had this feature.
Cheers

Thomas –
TwistedWave is simply the GREATEST. And thanks for your personal attention and prompt service, too. (You returned a late-nite call to me when I had some “beginner’s issues.”) TwistedWave is ideal for my needs as a VO artist for news promo in the U.S. (simple, “dry” mono tracks). Really the most user-friendly and logical audio software ever… THANK YOU and continued success to you!

I am often being told that users coming to mac from PC use TwistedWave to replace Sound Forge. You may want to have a look at it.

thanks Tomas. will do. what about Garage Band?

You can use Garage Band. Garage Band and TwistedWave have a goal, however. You use Garage Band as a multitrack editor, to create music. TwistedWave can be used to record and edit audio, and is not multitrack. It depends on what you want to do.

well, I have a PC, not a Mac. i have Protools at the moment but i’m not a big fan. Feels way to complicated to learn. I do VO work mostly.
