play selected and play unselected

I would like to suggest a feature for Twisted Wave:  The ability to play what you have selected, whether it be single or non-contiguous, and the ability to play around those selections - to play what is not selected.

Playing what is not selected should not send the playhead back to the very beginning of the waveform and neither should it continue to the end.  It would be nice to pick a preroll and postroll time value to confine the nonselected playback.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your suggestion. I understand what you mean. I think a better approach to this problem would be to have something like a secondary selection, and you would use one selection to select what you want to play, and another on which effects are applied, or something similar. It may take some time until I start working on this, but until then, here is what you could do instead:

Click in the area outside of your selection, where you want to play, and start playing. When you are done, click "Select / Reselect" from the main menu to recover your selection. You may also want to affect a keyboard shortcut to it.

Thanks for the help.  The reason for this suggestion is because when I record an audiobook, many times I will have audio files about 80 minutes long with something like a thousand markers.  (I just drop a marker when I've made a mistake or stumbled, and go back to the beginning of the sentence).  With so many markers to cut out, the fastest method is the best.  When I select an area to make a cut, it's ideal if I can play around the cut (the unselected audio) to hear how it would sound if I were to press Delete.  Then, as soon as I hit the Delete button, I can move to the next cut, without having to linger and check the transition.

Thanks,

Mike
